Content management system (CMS)
A Content Management System is an application designed to store, manage and format web data. Basically, it provides a simple way for those who are non-technical to update their website's content.
Most Content Management Systems use a database to store content and administration is usually done through a browser-based interface. Content Management Systems are used for all kinds of things, and as well as bespoke systems, there are various open source (software whose code is available for programmers etc. to look at and modify freely) systems that can be utilised. Examples of these are Joomla and Word Press.
