Copywriting with search engines in mind

What is search engine copywriting?

Copywriting is the process of writing words that promote a person, business, opinion, or idea. That said, what is search engine copywriting?

In a nutshell, it means writing content for your website in a search engine friendly way so that search engines know what your site is about and will index it in their databases under the right search words.

Of course, to be able to write effectively with search engines in mind, you first need to know what 'key words' visitors might be searching on to find your product or service. If you don't know this you are fighting in the dark.

Whilst it is true that search engine copy is keyword-based writing, this doesn't mean that you just create sentences and paragraphs stuffed full of your key search words. To do so would likely result in your website being banned from search engines, as they perceive it as trying to hoodwink them. Moreover, it would provide no meaningful content for human visitors.

... and human visitors too!

Your end result should be to produce informative content that has been written with both humans AND search engines in mind. In a nutshell, search engine copywriting is all about striking a balance with the density of your key words so as not to annoy the visitor, yet still appeal to search engines.

Ultimately, it is vital to use good copy in your web site in order to achieve success on the web.
