Questions for website owners
#1 Do you know that changes by Google to do with "personalised
search' might affect your site's search engine ranking?
Find out why and what to do about this here.
#2 Do you know if there are any websites linking to
yours?
Search engines
like quality, inbound links from other 'trusted' (and relevant) websites,
as they imply your site has worthwhile information in it. If you don't
have any quality links pointing to your site you should try to establish
some. We can help you with this.
#3 Do you know what search words people use to find
your site?
You might
be surprised to see what search terms are bringing in visitors (or
not) and can then capitalise on this.
#4 Do you have any broken links or images in your
site?
Broken links and
images are annoying for visitors and will also have a negative effect
on your site's search engine positions.
#5 Do you know how many people visited your site last
week, which web sites referred them and where in the world they came
from?
This is valuable
marketing information that you can't afford to miss out on.
#6 How easy is it for visitors to contact you from
your website?
It
doesn't take much for a visitor to be put off contacting you. Make it easy
for them to do so in several different ways. Also, if you have a contact
form make sure it works!
#7 Are your images optimised so they don't take too
long to download?
Pages
that takes ages to appear on the screen will turn your visitors away.
#8 Are you the registered owner of your domain name?
If
you are not the registered owner of your domain name you have no control
or rights over it, and may lose your name to someone else.
#9 Was your website built to be 'search engine friendly'?
If not,
you will turn search engines away and lose customers to your competitors.

#10 When was your site last updated?
Out-of-date content implies
a lack of business.
#11 Does your site have a special search engine 'sitemap'?
This is like an MOT for your website. It can function without it, but to
search engines it doesn't have the correct paperwork!
N.B. This is not the same as a normal visitor site map.
#12 Does your site have a robots file?
Don't know what a robots file is? Just like no: 11, above, it's something
that will 'annoy' search engines if you don't have it.
